We have a wide variety of fertilizer and crop protection products to fit your needs. We also carry high performing varieties of corn, soybean, wheat and forage seed. Our application fleet consists of four dry fertilizer spreaders and two self-propelled sprayers (100' and 120' width).
Also new this year is an intensive, site-specific soil sampling program. Our unique program combines the popular zone-sampling (by soil type) with the more intensive grid-sampling to capture an effective nutrient "photograph" of your fields. Once this information is compiled, it can be used to create GIS based maps of nutrient concentrations. These maps are then used to create a variable rate prescription map for applications of MAP, potash, and lime products.
We are also doing pre-sidedress nitrate testing (PSNT) for corn and beet fields. This service is available to growers at a very minimal cost, and can potentially save thousands of dollars in nitrogen costs. A PSNT will give you a good idea of how much additional N, if any, your fields will need. This is especially useful when manure has been applied, or when the preceding crop was alfalfa, clover, or other leguminous crops.
Sampling for the presence of nematodes is another service we're offering to help with your crop production goals.
It is a known fact that there are at least nine different weed species throughout the United States that are proven to be glyphosate-resistant. This resistance has developed over the past twelve years or so as the popularity of glyphosate-tolerant crops has increased. This isn't an issue we need to hit the panic button on just yet. However, we should be concerned and taking steps now to make sure that Roundup Ready technology is a tool we can continue to use for many years to come. Researchers have also now proven that glyphosate applications can impair plant availability of manganese, iron, zinc, and several other nutrients that are vital to maximizing yield.
Rotating herbicides with different modes of action is almost as important to long-term sustainability as rotating crops. For those of you growing wheat and dry edible beans in rotation, this may not be much of an issue. For growers who are primarily corn-soys-beets, or corn-corn-beets, this may be an issue. However, there is an alternative to Roundup. The new Ignite herbicide, when applied to crops carrying the LibertyLink trait, offers powerful control of over 120 different weed species. Ignite is fast-acting, has no known resistant weeds, and has an excellent crop safety rating.
Stop in and talk to us about LibertyLink soybeans! We will be offering both Renk and DF Seeds varieties carrying the LibertyLink trait.
We will be carrying Linebacker 10 white wheat this fall. This is a new variety from D.F. Seeds that combines excellent yield potential with sprout tolerance and high falling numbers.
It's never too early to be thinking about cover crop choices. Cover crops can scavenge excess nitrogen and hold nutrients, cut down erosion, build organic matter, decrease soil crusting, along with many other benefits. In addition, farmers in certain watersheds may be eligible for financial incentives from the NRCS for implementing a cover crop into their rotation. Cover crop seed can sometimes be difficult to find when it is needed, so be sure to contact us early so we can meet your needs. The following are some popular choices:
